WFMZ debuts renovated Studio B for local programming

WFMZ unveiled a renovated Studio B in Allentown, Pa., with new lighting, cameras, an LED video wall and a wrap-around video screen.

The renovation expanded the studio’s physical footprint and added more space for guests during debates and other productions. Production Manager Adam Klein said the project required structural changes to accommodate the new display.

“Even just a little bit of space would help. We did knock out a wall, poured concrete, extended the space,” Klein said.

The wrap-around screen allows the production team to change the studio’s visual appearance for different programs. WFMZ and its production company, MBC Teleproductions, have produced community programming in the Lehigh Valley for about 50 years.

“I think it gives a voice to the community that otherwise wouldn’t be there,” WFMZ President and General Manager Barry Fisher said. “Business Matters has had hundreds, maybe even thousands of guests by now from all parties and all walks of life.”

“Talk With Your Doctor,” which has been produced in partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network for more than 25 years, was the first program to air from the renovated studio.

“We hope that our audience will find that it appeals to them and gives them everything they need to know,” said Dr. Jeffrey Jahre, senior vice president of medical and academics at St. Luke’s University Health Network.

Former WFMZ anchor and health reporter Melanie Falcon also joined “Talk With Your Doctor” as its new host.

“I’m excited to work with the MBC Teleproductions crew. They’re just awesome to work with, and this new set is really cool, and there are a lot of different opportunities with it. I’m excited to be one of those,” Falcon said.

The studio will also be used for future political debates and other productions. “Talk With Your Doctor” airs Mondays at 6:30 p.m.
