CNN promotes Leigh Waldman to correspondent, moves her to Los Angeles

CNN has promoted Leigh Waldman to correspondent for its primary cable network, with the former CNN Newsource journalist set to move to Los Angeles, California, next month.

Waldman will begin her new role Oct. 12, 2026, reporting across CNN platforms as part of the network’s domestic news coverage.

She most recently worked as a correspondent for CNN Newsource in New York, New York, providing reporting for the network’s more than 1,000 affiliate partners.

Since joining CNN, Waldman has covered major national stories including deadly Fourth of July flooding in Central Texas, hurricanes along the Gulf Coast, school shootings and the launch and return of astronauts aboard Boeing’s Starliner.

Her promotion continues a path that began with an internship at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. She joins several journalists who have moved from CNN Newsource into correspondent and anchor roles across the network.

Before joining CNN, Waldman worked as an investigative reporter at KSAT in San Antonio, Texas. She was part of the station’s coverage of the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, work that received an Emmy Award, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award and a Texas Broadcast News Award.

Earlier in her career, Waldman served as a weekend morning anchor at WOWT in Omaha, Nebraska, where she covered major snowstorms, widespread flooding across the region and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Waldman earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
