The current XFL is a successor to the league of the same name founded by WWE’s Vince McMahon in 2001. The league first tried to restart in 2020 with the pandemic and various financial factoring shutting down play mid-season. 

The latest incarnation adds Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia as backers with a revised television deal across ESPN.

ESPN also airs a weekly digital studio show for the XFL, branded “XFL Today.”
