CBS News is expanding the election-focused programming on “The Takeout with Major Garrett” as the network increases its streaming and data coverage ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections.

The weekday program, which airs at 5 p.m. ET on CBS News 24/7, is adding four recurring segments focused on state races, polling, campaign fundraising and political reporting.

Segments will include “State by State,” focusing on developments in battleground states, while “Data Central” will examine polling and other election data.

“The Money Machine” will track campaign fundraising, and “Reporter’s Notebook” will give CBS News journalists an opportunity to provide additional context and reporting behind political stories.

CBS News 24/7 launched “The Takeout” in 2025.

The expansion comes as CBS News also begins working with VoteHub, a nonpartisan election data and analysis organization, on its 2026 coverage. VoteHub produces polling averages, election analysis and detailed election data.

The CBS News Data Desk will incorporate VoteHub election data, survey aggregation and maps into its midterm coverage, with the organizations also planning to work together on election night.

Zachary Donnini, VoteHub’s head of data science, will continue appearing on CBS News’ streaming programming. Donnini leads VoteHub’s work on polling averages, election models and data analysis and has already appeared on “The Takeout” to discuss the 2026 congressional races.
