WNBC-TV, NBC’s flagship station, has announced plans to launch a 24-hour local news channel, a move that will include revamping the station’s studio facilities at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, reports TVNewsday.

Dubbed a “content center,” the new facility will combine the station’s on-air, online and cable properties into one combined facility that will stretch across the renovated 6th and 7th floors.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2009.

The move echoes NBC News’ recent facility combination that opened late last year and brought NBC News, “Nightly News” and MSNBC under one roof at 30 Rock. In addition to physical changes, the new NBC News facility brings a cohesive, modern look across the network’s programming — a coordination of sets, graphics and music.

It will be interesting to see what design direction WNBC-TV will take on its new facility and if it will echo the sleek, modern look of its parent.
