‘Meet the Press’ creates faux bookcase for talking heads
NBC News is now sending a fake bookcase graphic to live shot locations for “Meet the Press.”
The graphic appears very very fake on air and looks extremely flat.
One better solution to this would have been to film a portion of the set, then send them the looped tape, similar to what is done with MSNBC’s news nooks. NBC also does something similar during the weekend edition of “Nightly” when they have a video loop of the studio in the background, when the broadcast is actually produced from a smaller studio with just a single camera.
‘World News’ debuts sleek new home
ABC New’s “World News” has debuted a new set by Jack Morton.
The new set creates more intimate shots between anchor Diane Sawyer and on-set reporters, a pivotal element that Sawyer brought to the newscast, as creates a lighter, more airy feel.
‘World News’ uses watermarked stock photo
Looks like someone borrowed a comp image from iStockPhoto on tonight’s broadcast of “World News.”
As you can see in the red box, the watermark is still on the image. The same image can be found here on iStockPhoto.

CBC’s Fifa World Cup set added to SetStudio
We’ve added photos of CBC’s 2010 Fifa World Cup set to SetStudio.
The set was designed by AKA Creative Group, a Toronto based company that has designed many sets for Canadian news and sports programs.
“This set covered this summer’s 2010 FIFA world cup for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Sports Division. Designing for both French and English boradcasts and using the latest in video technology, the sets designed by AKA helped deliver unprecedented coverage of the tournament to more Canadians than ever before,” said AKA Creative Group.
‘This Week’ debuts with updated graphics and theme

“This Week with Christiane Amanpour” debuted this past Sunday with many changes, including new graphics, music and an updated set at the Newseum.
The new graphics use red as the dominant color, dropping the previous red and blue look. The new graphics are also much more polished than the previous hodge-podge. While the open in the previous package was nice, the rest of the graphics felt like an afterthought.
The opening now shows various places around the world, while the previous focused on Washington D.C. landmarks, echoing Amanpour’s journalism background.

BBC launches U.S. news site

The BBC has launched a new site dedicated to U.S. news.
AdAge writes, “The BBC is growing its editorial operations with an original news site aimed at the American audience. Launching Thursday, BBC.com will feature U.S.-focused articles on politics and general news to be produced by a staff of around 10 journalists based in the company’s Washington bureau.”
“We want to build on the momentum of our business,” Miranda Cresswell, senior VP for BBC.com, explained about the enterprise. The BBC operates under a public trust, and its website cannot serve any advertising to computers based in the U.K.; readers outside of the Commonwealth, however, have been seeing ads for the past two years, most of which comes from the U.S. market. “We tripled ad revenue last year from the year before, and we plan on doubling this year,” Ms. Cresswell said.
The BBC previously had news from the US, but not this level of commitment. Users can access the site here.
615 Music musically rebrands CCTV
Along with a new set, CCTV has also rolled out new music, composed by 615 Music.
The package, named Icon News Music Package, features 12 themes and over 100 cuts. The package features a strong sonic brand with a largely orchestral base.
You can listen to a demo on 615’s site.
NBC testing ‘Nightly News Now’ for mobile devices
Via WebNewser, NBC is testing a new web update newscast called “Nightly News Now.”
The one to two minute long program recaps the day’s news in a format designed for mobile devices.
For the moment “Nightly News Now” is being tested out on the weekends, with Lester Holt anchoring. The plan is to monitor the response to the webcast, with the possibility of expanding it down the line.
MSNBC for a while has put web only video on its site, complete with an anchor intro from a news nook. We’ll see if this catches on, but at the moment it could use some more polishing.

![]()

The new graphics are clean and very bright and use some of the colors introduced in the newest “Evening News” graphics. Compared to the “Today Show,” these graphics seem to be similar in many ways.
‘Meet the Press’ to debut new set
NBC’s “Meet the Press” is moving to a new home May 2.
The current set, which has been used for years, debuted in 1997 during Tim Russert’s time as host.
The set will feature two tables — one circular and one rectangular as well as two large-scale video screens that will display a background of the White House, floor-to-ceiling bookcases. Overall the look is described as “ultramodern.”
