NBC New York debuts new studio, graphics, music

The much discussed and delayed home of WNBC-TV debuted over the weekend with little fanfare. Clickspring Design worked closely with NBC to design the new studio, providing a design that also matched the stations new graphical look.

Based in the former home of “NBC Nightly News,” the new studio feels cramped but makes good use of the available space.

Chicago forecaster discusses ‘subliminal messages’ in WX maps

TWC debuts iPad app with social weather

The Weather Channel recently released a new social iPad app.

Lost Remote writes, “With graphically pleasing weather displays, news and social content, a fun spinnable globe and HD video – this sure does resemble what every television station will hopefully look like in an interactive environment. On the social front, in addition to Twitter and Facebook, they’ve also integrated their own social platform iWitness so anyone can upload weather tips and sightings, which often get featured on-air.”

Idaho Falls weather graphics have a mind of their own

Not sure if someone was playing with the graphics system or what, but the opening block of a newcast at KIDK-TV in Idaho Falls, Idaho, was marred by an epic number of problems with weather graphics. Take a look at this video clip that recently surfaced.

Raleigh CBS affiliate renovating newsroom

WRAL-TV, the CBS affiliate in Raleigh, N.C., will debut a renovated newsroom set Sept. 27 along with some changes to the graphics and music.

“The renovated WRAL HD newsroom will showcase the station’s big coverage of big stories, local investigations, severe weather coverage plus Web and social media integration,” reads a story posted on the station’s site.

The original set, shown at right, debuted in 2001 as the first fully-HD newsroom in the country, was designed by Devlin Design Group.

Weather tweets blow in on TWC

Via LR, The Weather Channel is beginning a roll out of Twitter integration across its various platforms.

“Twitter gives voice and context to the topics people are most interested in, and everyone is interested in the weather,” said Chloe Sladden, Twitter’s director of content and programming. “We’re excited to make Tweets an integral part of weather reports on television, online and mobile. By surfacing these conversations and providing human context around factual weather information, The Weather Channel Social brings weather alive.”

It’s interesting that local stations haven’t already thought of this concept…

Bakersfield meteorologist woos Facebook friends in music video

KBAK-TV morning forecaster Aaron Perlman recently released a music video entitled “Facebook Friends.”

The video is part of a competition among the station’s morning personalities to see who can rack up the most friends.
