FOX Business Network launches ‘Data Wizard,’ powered by VDS

FOX Business Network recently launched “Data Wizard,” a real-time touch-screen control system, developed by VDS Technology in conjunction with FOX Graphics Engineering personnel.
The system is used primarily by Liz Claman’s “Countdown to the Closing Bell” which airs afternoons on FOX Business Network. The 103 inch touch-screen displays live market data with interactive 3D charting, stock comparison and annotation tools.
“From the beginning, we focused on making the system fast and easy to use by on-air talent. We wanted to deliver a tool that makes the telling of each story more compelling and informative,”said Mike Dilworth, CTO of Video Design Software. ” The single touch control aspect makes the Data Wizard unique, and allows the operator to quickly point or touch and always bring focus to the specific data of interest.”
Glenn Beck goes to new heights in storytelling
Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck took storytelling to a whole new level by taking a ride of a stage lift on the set of his show — all to prove a point about the GDP:
FoxNews.com rolls out new design

Via WebNewser, Fox News has rolled out a new site with clean styling to compete with CNN and MSNBC.
The site is a change for Fox News, as its last site used text layered on images and was very cluttered. The new site is very clean and overall is a good redesign, on par with CNN and MSNBC.
One unique feature of the site is the ability to embed a Adobe Flash news ticker into any site. Is this a gimmick? Maybe, but I bet some sites will find it useful.
i.e. Design Events launches new site

i.e. Design Events, the company of Emmy Award winning designer John Casey, has launched a new website.
The site features many of Casey’s latest projects including news and sports designs along with various lifestyle and children designs. Some notable designs featured include: The Suze Orman Show virtual set, various Fox News studios, CCTV’s Washington D.C. and London studios and many unique concepts that have not been built.
Casey won the 2006 and 2009 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for his work on “Martha,” Martha Stewart’s daytime syndicated show. Casey also won a BDA World Gold Award for his Sky News newsroom and set in 2006.

Fox News takes dayside HD
Johnny Dollar reports Fox News Channel has gone HD during its dayside hours with an updated set. The set uses the main Fox News Channel HD headquarters, previously used during the election season, in Studio J.
The new home for Fox’s dayside programming gives the talent many locations to shoot from and lots of unique gizmos to play with including multiple monitors and a Perceptive Pixel touch screen.
FoxNews.com relaunched

As first mentioned on WebNewser and Inside Cable News, FoxNews.com has relaunched with a clean new look.
The new site features a very very clean almost subdued look for FOX and features a good amount of cross branding with FOX Business. The site also gives you a detailed look at each nights primetime along with quick links to “features & faces.”
Breaking News also displays easier to read now and is not as annoying as some sites tend to make it. Also the site features big ad blocks on the right hand side of the page, such of which can fly out, causing a road block on the site.
Overall this is a good improvement for Fox News.
Graphics go simple, elegant for inauguration

Many cable and broadcast networks have gone with a simple, elegant look for graphics during the inauguration coverage. NBC News, shown above, is using a subtle blended look now that does a great job of not cluttering the screen too much. It also appears that MSNBC has dropped the ticker.
NewscastStudio Election Wrapup

This year’s election season was full of many new looks, toys, gizmos and hype-generating devices… but this begs the question, how much was really necessary?
Did CNN need to spend over $300,000 to beam a reporter into their New York Communications Center? Did NBC need to create a scaled down “Democracy Plaza” renamed as “Election Plaza?” Did FOX need a giant touch screen? (more…)
Fox News promos have very ‘un-Fox’ look

Fox News Channel has been running promos for several months now that are, for Fox News Channel, very simple looking.
