Did you know, NBC’s coverage of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games takes over 2,168 NBC staffers, 5 mobile units, 1 fixed wing aircraft, 127 printers, 385 laptop computers, 400,000 feet of cable, 900,000 gigabytes of HD video storage, 10,500 feet of fiber and 50,000 square feet of space in the International Broadcast Center?

today

NBC’s “Today Show” has a new Twitter page background. The new look includes several 3D “sunrise arches” floating in front of a whispy cloudscape. Also added is a the show’s new image campaign slogan: “Your Day is Today.”

The page still doesnt’ fix the issue of users with extremely large screens seeing a jarring cut-off on the edges of the background, as we’ve lamented before.

NBC’s “Today Show” has a new graphical look that has ties to the earlier MSNBC redesign but also has some strange design choices.

The new, cleaner look, gets rid of the sharp “ribbons” and somewhat choppy animation of the old package in exchange for white boxes accented with color, similar to the look at MSNBC.

More images, a video clip and commentary after the jump.

Philly residents ‘furious’ over new site look?
Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

furious

As part of the NBC O&O Web site relaunches today, readers have the opportunity to vote on various stories. It seems like the new site may not be that popular in Philadelphia. At 8:42 p.m. CT Wednesday evening, 48 percent of readers had indicated they were “furious” on the new site tour posted on the site.

In fairness, it might be a little unclear to some what they were voting on based on how the page was designed.

Other cities had a bit better reaction: 37 percent of Chicago users said they were “thrilled” on NBCChicago.com’s iteration of the same story (though “furious” was a close second). In New York, 43 percent of users were “thrilled” as well, followed by 19 percent being “intrigued.”

To some extend this does demonstrate the fickleness of online polls; not that they can’t add a bit of fun to a site and NBC seems to have captured a certain playfulness that might win over viewers.
