Mediaseed.tv makes content easy

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

As mentioned on last nights podcast, Mediaseed.tv, a new product from MediaLink, provides content for stations on-air and online.

The service, online at http://www.mediaseed.tv, requires users to signup to download content, but anyone may view the content currently online. Then, registered users can download content. This feature is where Mediaseed shines. Users have the choice of many formats, including, .flv, .wmv, .mov, and MPEG 2. Each of these formats are available in varying bitrates, perfect for use on-air and online.

Not TVNewser, just Newser

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

An interesting news site has popped into our radar: a site called Newser.

newser.jpg

A very Web 2.0 site, Newser offers a user-controllable home page where you can change both the number of stories and drag a slider to have more “hard” or “soft” news appear. Stories are culled from other online sites. Optional flyouts allow you to preview each story before clicking.

Newser has live editors that summarize the top stories of the day and provide links to stories from around the Internet. These editors use both algorithms and human judgment to determine the inclusion and prominence of stories.

The crux of the site, however, is the “Threads” feature. Threads are created by users and are essentially a way to group stories into tops or themes. Each thread can have one or more stories and photos, again gathered from around the Web.

NBCSports.com integrates with MSNBC.com

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

With the main site redesign completed, MSNBC.com has continued to create individual branded pages for other NBC properties using the MSNBC.com platform with the launch of a new NBCSports.com page.

The new site, found by entering the domain www.nbcsports.com or by clicking the “Sports” link on any MSNBC.com navigation menu, stays fairly well within the framework of the main MSNBC.com site, and boasts a dynamic top stories area and customizable modules for specific categories. Text links on the top of pages lead to in-season sports coverage from the site’s broadcast counterpart.

iReport.com debuts

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Less than a year after launching a new Web site for the cable network, CNN has unveiled iReport.com, its citizen journalism site in beta status (what else?).

This new site allows users to submit reports of news they see. Content appears live immediately but can be flagged by users and removed by CNN.

One neat feature is that CNN adds a little “On CNN” label to any material that made it to CNN, proving that they do, in fact, use the content (and by the looks of it, a decent amount of it).

CNN has also added a section that allows you to get to know a little about the site’s top contributors. A smattering of Web 2.0 features such as tagging, rating and top 10 lists are also available.

It’s interesting that site design isn’t heavy with the CNN brand and doesn’t use the CNN.com design.

The site does require a registration and has some advertising components, but most seem to be in-house promos for now. It will be interesting to see if the site attracts big name advertisers.

Share your thoughts of iReport.com on our forum.

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

The Web is also playing a big role in Election 2008 coverage (this is the 21st century after all) and the battle is just a fierce between news organizations to see who can provide the best coverage.
