Miami’s WTVJ-TV will be following its fellow NBC O&Os and getting a new Web site with new branding, dumping its longtime Web branding of NBC6.net.

It’s not clear when NBCMiami.com will become a reality, but MediaDailyNews points out the switch was envitable once the deal to sell the station to Post-Newsweek fell through.

MediaDailyNews also points out the irony that NBC has elected to us the NBCMiami.com moniker rather than NBCSouthFlorida.com, since the station serves the Ft. Lauderdale area as well and other NBC stations in similar situations have opted for a more regional tilt (NBCBayArea.com, for example).

It is good news to see NBC6.net going away; using a .net extension was never a good idea since many consumers assume Web URLs end in .com.
