KMIZ-TV, the ABC affiliate serving Columbia/Jefferson City, Mo., has officially announced it will debut HD news Oct. 10.

The station debuted a new set about a year ago and has slowly begun airing syndicated programming such as Jeopardy! in high definition.

KMIZ-TV will join KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate owned by the University of Missouri, which began broadcasting high definition news in 2008 and debuted a new set in 2009. At market 138, Columbia will become one of the few below-100 DMA markets to have two competing HD newscasts.
