The Weather Channel has rolled out version 5.0 of its iPhone app, an update the network is promoting as its first major redesign since 2008.
The app completes a visual update that has its roots in the iPad app the channel launched in October and then a website redesign that launched a few weeks ago.
Like these products, the new design centers around a full screen background that matches current conditions.
In addition, the app includes a revamp of the navigation buttons and improves the ability to manage multiple locations.
Another key feature of the new app is direct social media photo integration that includes Facebook and Twitter and also gives users the ability to share content with the Weather Channel.
These changes are apparently just the start of the Weather Channel’s plans, however, adding the ability to tell when rain will start and stop via the mobile app, a feature currently available on the website.
