NBC and Shazam have announced a partnership that will let viewers of the 2012 Olympics in London access extra content, reports Lost Remote.

Viewers who use the Shazam mobile app to tag a broadcast on one of the NBC networks carrying Olympics coverage will unlock additional information on the athletes, polls, schedules, results, medal counts and social media sharing abilities.

“Our collaboration with NBC around the London Games marks an exciting milestone for Shazam for TV,” said Shazam CEO Andrew Fisher in a statement. “As the leader in second-screen interactive television, we’re proud to work with NBC to make their coverage of the London 2012 Summer Olympics an even more engaging and interactive social experience.” Adds NBC Sports’ Rick Cordella, “We are confident their Shazam for TV service will help us ignite even more excitement among viewers watching the Games on the networks of NBCUniversal.”
