Social-powered ‘Morning Dose’ doles out a spoonful of bright and light

Graphically, the show’s logo, which is stylized as “morning dose.” just like its parent website, serves as the foundation for the show’s bright and colorful graphics.

The dot in the stylized version of the name translates to oversized versions of it appearing through the show’s full screen graphics as large, colorful circles, often featuring gradient fills, with grays, teals, blues, yellows and corals being among the popular colors in the package designed by Trollbäck + Company.

Symbolically, the circle could be interpreted as both a sun or, when considering the “dose” part of the name, the shape of a pill or tablet.

Pale tan boxes serve as the foundation for the lower thirds, which make use of a clear and crisp typeface rendered in dark blue and coral.

Another prominent graphical element of the show is a rounded rectangle, which itself is a “stretched” version of the circle element.

The longer shape of this element is used to convey movement, much like a smart phone’s unlock switch. The elongated shape also could be read as a capsule, linking it to the “dose” theme in the show’s name.

Perhaps wisely, the show opted to avoid using rounded corners in the lower thirds themselves, which made it easier for the text to “fill out” the containers it is placed in, enhancing legibility and allowing the lower thirds to be smaller and less obtrusive.

“Morning Dose” is hosted by reality TV star Melissa Rycroft and former NFLer Brandon London, with news anchor Laila Muhammad joining the show from Tribune’s Norfolk, Virginia station.
