Headers and rectangular ‘arcs’
The white fabric header element found in the new “Today” studio are a lighter, brighter interpretation of the boxy header elements found on both sides of Studio 3A.
Another prominent element in set designs of the NBC family is the use of squared-off “archways” featuring right angles instead of the normal curves.
These elements appeared in Studio 3B’s internally lit columns that made a 90-degree turn to become headers and continue to exist prominently on the “NBC Nightly News” set in the wood and internally lit elements.
Typically these elements are also tied into strategic floor markings that continue the “flow” of the “archway,” essentially creating a four sided-box.
In the new Studio 1A, this concept appears prominently in the floor markings and vertical white panels boasting the “Today” logo.
