Sony Crystal LED to be utilized in Fox’s World Cup studio

Sony announced its Crystal LED display solution will be part of Fox Sports’ studio for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia during its NAB Show press conference.

The display combines ultrafine LEDs with a unique surface mount that can produce a contrast ratio of more than 1,000,000:1.

“The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be Fox Sports’ largest production in our 24-year history,” notes Kevin Callahan of Fox Sports. “We chose the Sony Crystal LED product because of its remarkable clarity and brightness.”

Fox’s set for the World Cup features design by JHD Group and will be located in Moscow’s Red Square.

“The Crystal LED will be featured in our daily studio coverage as a scenic element our presenters will interact with. We have cameras moving around our presenters, so the 180-degree viewing angle was important to us” said Callahan.

Sony also focused on 4K, 8K and HDR capabilities, announcing the launch of the UHC 8300 camera for live production.
