NBC begins airing hard-hitting new ‘Nightly News’ promos

Images of some of the hotest names in the news, including Donald Trump appear, as well as white outlined text.

“The journey from the brink of war to the negotiating table has been stunningly swift, says Holt as the words “The Story” appear on screen. He contines with “That is fire being pushed by the wind. Our escort said we simply can’t go any farther” with “As if you were there” appearing on screen.

Before a clip with Holt’s Trump interview, the words “The question you would ask.”

“The context you need” then appears with Holt, heard through a helicopter comms headset, asking a pilot about what he’s been seeing in a flood zone.

Next up are correspondents Richard Engel, Jo Ling Kent, Miguel Almaguer and Hallie Jackson reporting from some rather rough looking remote areas, along with additional shots of Holt, these more in neighborhood like settings.

A series of quickly edited, highlty stylized photos of Holt showcase the words “The story … told … nightly” before ending on a bright blue image of Holt, seated the anchor desk in Studio 3A, with a branded video wall behind behind.

“Nightly” has an interim executive producer, Jenn Suozzo, after Sam Singal stepped down in July.

Much of the “Nightly” programming strategy of late does seem to be focused on positive, uplifting stories, including the introduction of a regular rotation of feel-good “kickers” at the end of each newscast.

The aforementioned “Understanding Matters” also took on a software, more information tone, so having hard hitting spots to draw from could also be a good way to still showcase and emphasize the show’s commitment to in-depth, in the field journalism.

“Nightly” and “ABC World News Tonight” are key rivals in the ratings for total viewers and tops in the demo.
