Derrick Young is out as morning traffic reporter on WBBM, the CBS O&O in Chicago.

Young joined CBS Chicago after the station held an open casting call competition to find its new traffic reporter in 2011.

His last day on air was Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019.

Young was previously a teacher and coach.

There’s no immediate word if the station will replace him, reports Robert Feder

Young’s departure is the latest in a string of high profile talent departures from the station.

Primary co-anchor Rob Johnson and morning co-anchor Marissa Bailey were let go in March and, in a surprise move, the station promoted investigative reporter Brad Edwards to the evening anchor desk.

The low rated station faces stiff competition in the traffic arena from WLS’s Roz Varon, the Chicago broadcasting veteran who is widely credited with inventing traffic reporting.

WMAQ, the market’s NBC O&O, uses Kye Martin for traffic reports in the morning.
