Roku surpasses 100 million streaming households worldwide

Roku announced it has surpassed 100 million streaming households worldwide, marking a milestone for the streaming platform as viewing habits continue shifting toward internet-delivered television.
The company said the figure reflects the number of distinct user accounts that streamed on the Roku platform over a 30-day period as of April.
“Surpassing 100 million streaming households is a defining moment, not just for Roku, but for the future of television,” said Anthony Wood, founder and CEO of Roku. “We’re helping shape the entertainment landscape by making it easier to discover great content, more affordable to watch it, and more effective for advertisers and partners around the world to connect with audiences. Roku devices are used in more than half of U.S. broadband households, with additional growth reported in markets including Mexico, Canada, Brazil and the United Kingdom, the company said. The Roku operating system powers both standalone streaming players and smart TVs produced by manufacturing partners.
According to Comscore, Roku accounts for more than three times the engagement of the next leading TV operating system in the United States. The company said its home screen increasingly serves as the entry point for content discovery and viewing.
Roku said its platform includes more than 500 free live linear channels in the United States, along with on-demand programming and access to subscription streaming services. The The Roku Channel ranked as the No. 2 free ad-supported streaming app on the platform and No. 5 overall in the United States, according to Nielsen’s “The Gauge” report.
The company also recently introduced Howdy, a subscription service priced at $3 per month and available in the United States and Mexico.
Roku said its scale provides reach for advertisers and distribution opportunities for streaming services, including subscription management through its platform. The company said it plans to continue expanding platform features, personalization and international availability as streaming adoption grows.
