Ross Video expands Ontario operations to develop next generation Ultrix platform

Ross Video has announced an expansion of its manufacturing and research and development operations in Ontario to accelerate the next generation of its Ultrix media processing platform.

The announcement was made May 21, 2026, at Ross Video’s Ottawa facility, with representatives from the Government of Ontario and Invest Ontario present, including Minister Vic Fedeli, Minister Stan Cho, and Invest Ontario CEO Khawar Nasim.

The expansion is supported by the Invest Ontario Fund and will focus on developing new Ultrix features such as AI-enabled processing, modular standalone deployment options, and a redesigned architecture intended to improve scalability and support future innovation.

The updated platform is expected to increase processing capacity and provide more flexible and efficient live production workflows for broadcasters and media organizations globally.

Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, said the expansion will create new opportunities for Ontario’s workforce and contribute to the province’s manufacturing and technology sectors.

Ross Video began discussions with Invest Ontario during a period of company growth, seeking ways to scale operations while investing in innovation and talent. The initial connection was made through Invest Ottawa.

Troy English, chief technology officer and senior vice president at Ross Video, said the investment will accelerate the next Ultrix generation with enhanced AI capabilities and improved performance, while continuing to support Ontario talent and manufacturing.

Cathy McCallion, stakeholder and community relations director at Ross Video, noted that Invest Ontario’s understanding of the company’s growth plans and needs was important to the project’s development. She added that the project represents an investment in Ontario communities and the broader innovation ecosystem.

The Ultrix platform consolidates multiple media processing functions into a single software-defined system, widely used by broadcasters and live production teams. The next development phase aims to simplify complex production environments and address emerging needs such as AI integration, cloud workflows, and distributed production.

Khawar Nasim, CEO of Invest Ontario, said the investment supports Ontario innovation competing on a global scale and advances media technology developed and manufactured in the province.

Ross Video highlighted Ontario’s technology ecosystem, including skilled talent, post-secondary institutions, government partners, and industry networks that support innovation and manufacturing.

English added that the project allows the company to build for the future while remaining rooted in Ontario, with plans to continue collaborating with partners across the province.
