Tegna has promoted Scott Gill to vice president of technology and operations, overseeing engineering, technology and sports operations across the company’s 64 local television stations.
Gill will lead efforts to modernize infrastructure, improve station performance and support local journalism across broadcast, streaming, mobile and digital platforms.
“Scott brings a unique combination of operational expertise, technical leadership and innovation to this position,” said Kurt Rao, executive vice president and chief technology and digital products officer. “He’s played a critical role in advancing our stations’ technology, and he has the expertise we need to strengthen our operations as we continue to shape the future of local media.”
Gill joined Tegna in 2012 and most recently served as head of technology and sports operations. In that role, he developed technology and operational strategies for the company’s stations and supported its NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLB and other live sports productions, as well as nationally syndicated programming.
He also managed Tegna’s drone, helicopter and pilot operations, expanding station newsgathering capabilities while overseeing safety and operational standards.
“Local journalism depends on strong technology,” Gill said. “I look forward to working with our station leaders to strengthen the tools our newsrooms rely on to serve our communities.”
Before joining Tegna, Gill spent 10 years in field operations at Fox supporting major news coverage and live-event productions. He also worked with Harpo Productions on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and held positions at television stations and production facilities. Gill is a former emergency medical technician and a pilot.
