NBC4 KNBC and Telemundo 52 KVEA have launched their annual “Supporting Our Schools” campaign to provide backpacks and school supplies to students across Southern California.
The campaign runs through Aug. 11, 2026, in partnership with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. Online donations will support youth programs and student services throughout Los Angeles County.
Since the campaign began in 2023, the stations and their partners have distributed more than 16,000 backpacks filled with school supplies.
“We are committed to supporting students and families by helping provide the essential school supplies they need to start the school year prepared for success,” Todd Mokhtari, president and general manager of KNBC and KVEA, said in a statement.
Station personalities will participate in five distribution events at YMCA locations. Backpacks and supplies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
The distribution schedule is:
- July 31, 5 to 7 p.m.: Weingart-East Los Angeles YMCA, 2900 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles, California
- Aug. 1, 10 a.m. to noon: Antelope Valley YMCA, 43001 10th St. W., Lancaster, California
- Aug. 5, 5 to 7 p.m.: Mid Valley YMCA, 6901 Lennox Ave., Van Nuys, California
- Aug. 5, 5 to 7 p.m.: Southeast-Rio Vista YMCA, 4801 E. 58th St., Maywood, California
- Aug. 7, 5 to 7 p.m.: Wilmington YMCA, 1127 N. Avalon Blvd., Wilmington, California
“As back-to-school costs continue to rise, these events are essential to ensure our youth have the tools and confidence they need to thrive,” Victor Dominguez, president and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, said.
California Credit Union is returning as a campaign sponsor. Its branches in Los Angeles and Orange counties will accept donations of new school supplies through Aug. 1.
