WFAA in Dallas, Texas, has hired Emmy-nominated journalist Nikiya Carrero as a reporter following her departure from CBS-owned WFOR in Miami, Florida.

Carrero announced her new position Oct. 26, 2026, on social media, confirming that she had joined the ABC affiliate after spending three years reporting in her hometown, noted Chron.com.

“Career update… I have joined the news team at WFAA in Dallas as a reporter! Super ecstatic to join such a legendary station and continue my career as a journalist,” Carrero wrote.

Her move to North Texas follows an Oct. 12, 2026, announcement that she was leaving WFOR, where she had covered the Miami community since 2023.

In her farewell message, Carrero reflected on the opportunity to report in the city where she grew up.

“I started at CBS News Miami 3 years ago, over the moon excited to tell the story of my people, my hometown,” she wrote. “Every person I met and interviewed I saw myself in them.”

She concluded the message by revealing her next destination: “Next stop, Texas!”

Carrero began her television news career in October 2019 at KX News (a news brand used by KXMB, KXMC, KXMD and KXMA) in Bismarck, North Dakota, working as a multimedia journalist.

In October 2021, Carrero joined ABC affiliate WJCL in Savannah, Georgia.

Carrero graduated from Barry University in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and emerging media.
