Michael Courier has joined WZZM in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as a morning reporter and weekend anchor following his departure from KVUE in Austin, Texas.
Courier announced his exit from the ABC affiliate on Oct. 9, 2026, revealing that he and his wife were relocating to Michigan after spending four and a half years in Texas. The move brings Courier back to his home state, where he is originally from Bay City.
“Although my time in Austin was relatively short, the impact this city and my coworkers had on my life is truly difficult to put into words,” Courier wrote in a Facebook post announcing his departure. “I will forever be grateful for EVERYONE in ATX.”
Courier joined KVUE in July 2025 as a morning reporter for the station’s “Daybreak” newscast. During his time in Austin, he covered breaking news, local government and community events while also serving as a fill-in anchor.
“Michael was a tremendous asset to our morning team and someone who brought energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for storytelling to work every day,” KVUE executive news director Travis Sattiewhite told MySA.
Sattiewhite also praised Courier’s career advancement, noting that WZZM is a sister station of KVUE.
Before arriving in Austin, Courier spent three years at KVIA in El Paso, Texas, where he worked as a morning reporter, traffic anchor and fill-in news anchor. He began his television news career there after studying journalism at Colorado Media School in Denver.
Courier said he and his wife decided it was time to “head back north and go home to Michigan.” Now based in Grand Rapids, he said he is looking forward to getting to know his home state even better through his new role at WZZM.
