CNN makes graphic mistake during ‘Restoring Honor’ rally
Via Inside Cable News, looks like CNN made a few mistakes on this L3. Can you spot all three?
TVNewser writes, “If there was an award for ‘most mistakes in a single chyron,’ this would probably take first place.”
‘Meet the Press’ creates faux bookcase for talking heads
NBC News is now sending a fake bookcase graphic to live shot locations for “Meet the Press.”
The graphic appears very very fake on air and looks extremely flat.
One better solution to this would have been to film a portion of the set, then send them the looped tape, similar to what is done with MSNBC’s news nooks. NBC also does something similar during the weekend edition of “Nightly” when they have a video loop of the studio in the background, when the broadcast is actually produced from a smaller studio with just a single camera.
Fox Sports moves from Chyron to Vizrt
Along with debuting a new graphics package for its preseason NFL coverage, Fox also debuted a new work flow with Vizrt.
“Viewers can expect to see a much more colorful 3D look overall,” says Zac Fields, Fox Sports’ manager of remote graphics. “Yet at the same time, our production process will be much more streamlined; making life simpler for the artists and operators who create and play our graphics.”
To make this happen, Fox Sports has migrated to Vizrt’s graphics platform, including: Viz Artist, Viz Engine and Viz Trio. Previously, Fox relied on Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max and Adobe Suite to create graphics, then importing to Chyron Duet software.
“One of the Trios is used for our ‘FOX BOX’ scoring banner,” said Fields. “The second Viz Trio is used for our 3D graphics. Although much of its content is preproduced, it is possible for us to create new 3D animations on the fly.”
Fox Sports plans to roll out the Viz 3D system to its other sports properties early next year, including its NASCAR coverage in February.

Fox Sports rolls out new graphics for NFL coverage
Foxx Sports has rolled out new graphics for its coverage of the NFL.
The new graphics are a vast improvement and look very polished. One interesting note, FOX is now broadcasting the games letterboxed to SD viewers. With that said, many of the graphics still seem safe zone oriented with only a few taking advantage of the extra wings.

FOX Business Network launches ‘Data Wizard,’ powered by VDS

FOX Business Network recently launched “Data Wizard,” a real-time touch-screen control system, developed by VDS Technology in conjunction with FOX Graphics Engineering personnel.
The system is used primarily by Liz Claman’s “Countdown to the Closing Bell” which airs afternoons on FOX Business Network. The 103 inch touch-screen displays live market data with interactive 3D charting, stock comparison and annotation tools.
“From the beginning, we focused on making the system fast and easy to use by on-air talent. We wanted to deliver a tool that makes the telling of each story more compelling and informative,”said Mike Dilworth, CTO of Video Design Software. ” The single touch control aspect makes the Data Wizard unique, and allows the operator to quickly point or touch and always bring focus to the specific data of interest.”

Miami CBS affiliate launches new look

WFOR-TV, the CBS owned and operated affiliate in Miami, has unveiled a new logo and new graphics, reports Florida News Center.
The new logo includes a simplified numeral “4″ but retains the “wave” found under it. In many cases, the logo is used in a single color, either white or dark blue, but there are also instances that include a more teal-toned wave, which is a nice connection to the old look.
Overall, the new graphics are similar to those seen at other CBS O&O stations, namely KYW-TV in Philadelphia. This package, however, is slightly darker, lacks some of the warmer tones found in KYW’s and some of the 3D elements appear bit more sharp-edged. Many aspects of the package don’t seem quite a refined as KYW’s.
