Sports Video Group has a look at Chyron and NeuroTV’s partnership heading into NAB 2010.

Virtual set technology is popular in Asia and Europe but U.S. TV productions have been reticent to rely on it due to cost and complexity. The deal with NeuroTV could change that equation has it has a trackless technology, meaning that the camera can be locked down and computers then synthesize moves like camera crane moves and pans.

According to preliminary figures released by NAB, attendance for this year’s show was down by more than 20,000 people.

The 2009 show attracted 83,842 attendees, compared to the 105,259 who made the trek to Las Vegas in 2008.

“With two days remaining, the NAB Show has been a phenomenal success by any measure in an otherwise challenging economy,” spun NAB Executive Vice President Dennis Wharton in a statement.

Despite a weakening economy and numerous challenges facing media on all platforms, NAB president and CEO David K. Rehr emphasized that broadcasters of today are “forging ahead” and showing the value of their services.

That message was repeated by John L. Sander, the NAB joint board chair, who spoke to a less-than-capacity audience at the NAB opening session in Las Vegas Monday.

“At a time when businesses everywhere are seeking momentum, this is the event that will provide it,” said Sander. (more…)

NAB survey: 80 percent of attendees plan on purchases
Thursday, April 16th, 2009

NAB has released the results of a survey it conducted that found that nearly 80 percent of the pre-registered attendees plan to buy products or services on the show floor this year.

This figure may seem a bit high in today’s economy and one has to wonder if the number is being skewed at least a little by the fact that companies that OK’d the journey to Las Vegas are more likely to have a defined reason for going.

Remember too, that 80 percent becomes a less impressive figure the more attendance is down overall; and almost everyone seems to be in agreement there will be a significant drop this year.

A summary of the study’s findings is after the jump.

Cracking the case: MSNBC green screen
Monday, April 14th, 2008

Today at NAB 2008, NewscastStudio was able to uncover who designed the MSNBC “election center.” As we all recall, the “election center” was the totally 3D environment used during the election primaries. The set featured a 360 shooting area, and graphics could pop up from the floor.

Today, we cracked the case. Originally, MSNBC built a temporary set for their Super Tuesday coverage. Then, after Super Tuesday, they took pictures of every part of the set. This allowed them to recreate the set using blueprints and pictures in 3D.
