MSNBC.com blows away home page

MSNBC.com has dedicated the entire top of its home page to financial bailout coverage, using a large, centered headline with a ghosted background.

Also included is the embeded video player.

This type of layout really shows the strength that MSNBC.com’s redesign has in multi-faceted storytelling. Other sites have difficulties in display big coverage like this.

For example, CNN.com ran out of room over the weekend in its left-hand top story box when covering the death of Paul Newman and additional stories spilled into the right column. While not confusing, it’s not quite as effective as grouping everything into a boxed unit like MSNBC.com.
