TV Week has more details about the plans in Times Square during election night.
As reported earlier, ABC News will be utilizing its “Good Morning America” studios for coverage. ABC has also rented out signage from Reuters, Nasdaq and the Hard Rock Cafe in addition to the large ribbons of tickers and big screen mounted on the side of the studios.
Together, these elements are being billed the “Super Screen.” All top there will be six different display elements, which required an additional control room to be built at ABC News headquarters. A graphic representation of Times Square from ABC appears with this post.
ABC News has been conducting tests in the middle of the night, using all zeros for voting data, and has apparently made some adjustments to the fonts and colors based on HD screen tests of these elements.
ABC News president David Westin is quoted in TV Week as saying it “would not bother me” if Fox News Channel’s broadcast appeared in the background of his network’s shots and that shots will be left up to the directors.
We now learn that CNN, which has used the Nasdaq MarketSite for previous election coverages, will be hosting a “watch party” from atop the newly-renovated TKTS booth.
