ESPN marks 150 years of college football with special programming, design

Throughout the 2019 college football season, ESPN will look back at the first 150 years of the sport.

Lasting 150 days, from August 17, 2019, through January 13, 2020, the sesquicentennial celebration will include testimonials, vignettes, original documentaries and the selection of the greatest teams, games, coaches and players.

“The 150th anniversary will be an unparalleled celebration of college football, providing the backdrop for ESPN’s vast platforms to explore the sport’s deep-rooted affiliation with American culture. Emerging from that rich history will be the formation of The All-Time All America Team, representing the single best player at each position on the field,” said ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro in a statement last year.

Dubbed CFB 150, ESPN has developed a special design for branded segments marking the occasion, with the sport officially celebrating the anniversary in November.

Along with airing extensive regular-season college football coverage, the network also covers the College Football Plays and Championship which will be in New Orleans this season.
