Gray Television’s KXII in Sherman, Texas, has debuted a new set from FX Design Group that features a clean design complement with tech.
The station, which operates as an affiliate of CBS, Fox and MyNetworkTV across its primary and subchannels, now broadcasts from a flexible space with a variety of technology.
An asymmetrical polygonal anchor desk is fronted with a single video panel and topped with a white and glass top.
Behind the desk is a 2×4 video array that can serve as a background for both the anchor desk and off-axis standup shots.
Digital Video Group provided AV integration with NEC and LG displays installed throughout the set.
Camera left of home base is a standup area with a single large video panel inside of a gray frame.
The venue’s position also allows for a wide toss shot between talent in both locations, while both sides of the desk are also set up to allow for debriefs from sports, weather or reporters.
The set also features a working weather center camera right.
The weather center is purposefully close the anchor desk, allowing for tight interaction between the two areas during severe weather coverage.
The weather space features a presentation desk with its own video panel on front and integrated workstation monitors, with additional workspaces lined up behind it.
Two video panels are mounted directly behind the presentation desk, while an array of three in two different sizes are on the wall next to it, which runs perpendicular to the main rear one.
Forecasters can present full segments from a 3×3 video wall far camera right of the anchor desk.
This features a gray frame with blue footer element and white side panels with black reveal lines. Other portions of the set also use these finishes, including in the anchor desks, headers, bases and columns.
Additional finishes include a grayish wood tone, white panels with ridged accents and backlit frosted glass, the latter of which forms a good portion of the set’s walls.
These are color-changing and feature the ability to create gradient effects.
FX also designed the set’s lighting using instruments from De Sisti and Ikan.
