CBS News anchor Gayle King has renewed her contract to remain at the network’s “CBS Mornings.”
The new deal, which was confirmed by CBS March 4, 2026, ends speculation that King would depart the show or network after her previous deal expired.
“I’m excited about continuing at ‘CBS Mornings.’ As always, I’m open to new adventures here and ready to go,” King said in a statement.
King is one of CBS’s highest-profile personalities and is the sole remaining original co-anchor of the show, originally known as “CBS This Morning.” Despite multiple talent shuffles and a relaunch under the “CBS Mornings” name, CBS’s morning show remains in last place among big three network morning news.
The show is currently without a third permanent co-anchor after Tony Dokoupil departed earlier in 2025 to take over “CBS Morning News.” Currently, Nate Burleson, who also provides analysis for NFL coverage, is the other permanent co-anchor of the show.
Meanwhile, there are reports that management is looking to make changes to the “CBS Mornings” in hopes of boosting its ratings. It is not clear if that could involve further talent changes, though King’s new deal indicates she is likely to remain a fixture on the broadcast.
In the statement, CBS News President Tom Cibrowski said King and Burleson “are fantastic partners on the show and morning TV is more vibrant than ever. We are excited to continue to evolve ‘CBS Mornings’ and can’t wait for what’s to come.”
Before the new contract was announced, there had been speculation that King might exit CBS News altogether or shift to a different role, such as producing her own content for the network, but leave “Mornings.”
King’s new deal with CBS calls for her to work on “new, enterprising projects that bring her talents to new audiences,” though the announcement did not provide further details.
Had King exited CBS, her departure would have marked another major name leaving the network surrounding the merger of Skydance Media and Paramount Global that led to significant changes to how the network is managed.
After the merger, multiple behind-the-scenes and on-camera staffers left the network. Management is also said to be looking for ways to cut costs and has implemented layoffs as well.
