Internet Broadcasting unveils updated mobile news apps

Internet Broadcasting, the provider of digital publishing technology, news content and digital agency solutions for local media companies, announced enhancements to several mobile news apps as part of the growth of the company’s strategic product roadmap.

IB’s mobile news apps provide users with a visually and functionally better mobile experience than the previous app versions.

The apps answer client need by enabling faster loading of content, quicker updates of breaking news stories and fully customizable content from IB’s CMS platform, ibPublish, putting the control of the content in the hands of stations.

Longtime IB client News-Press & Gazette Company saw a 375 percent growth in mobile app metrics (sessions, users and engagement) from when they onboarded in November 2013 through March 2014.

Website metrics continued to grow as well, demonstrating that the apps only enhance the desktop experience, not detract from it. Comparing February 2013 against February 2014, NPG sites saw a 16 percent increase in sessions and 9 percent increase in users, in addition to their increased activity in mobile.

“The mobile news apps offer a much better consumer experience than the competition,” said Tony Courtwright, Director of Digital Media at News-Press & Gazette Company. “IB’s mobile news apps work to send readers directly to the story with ease.”

The success of the apps has led to clients Schurz Communications and Morgan Murphy Media recently adding the apps as well.

“IB’s mobile news apps exemplify the forward motion of the company,” said Todd Carter, Chief Technology Officer at IB. “Our apps – like all of our new products — allow users the freedom to consume news the way they want to consume it. The enhanced user experience ultimately leads to more monetization opportunities for our clients.”

Continuously improving apps ensures that stations can monetize their apps and engage with an ever-growing user base. IB’s apps consistently receive 4-and-5-star store ratings and also increase stations’ push notification subscriber bases by 10 percent each month. By focusing on ongoing improvements, IB ensures that stations have the best apps in their markets.
