“ABC World News Tonight” apparently couldn’t even bring itself to put a starred out version of the word on screen for long — its fullscreen graphic with the quote replaced the word “shithole” with “(EXPLETIVE)” and anchor David Muir indicated that the show “cannot repeat” the word used.

By the next day, ABC got a bit more daring on “Good Morning America,” switching to using a starred out version of the word — with only the “S” remaining — on screen. The broadcast still did not say the word, instead using the word “blank” to refer to what it labeled a “profane slur.”
