An interesting news site has popped into our radar: a site called Newser.
A very Web 2.0 site, Newser offers a user-controllable home page where you can change both the number of stories and drag a slider to have more “hard” or “soft” news appear. Stories are culled from other online sites. Optional flyouts allow you to preview each story before clicking.
Newser has live editors that summarize the top stories of the day and provide links to stories from around the Internet. These editors use both algorithms and human judgment to determine the inclusion and prominence of stories.
The crux of the site, however, is the “Threads” feature. Threads are created by users and are essentially a way to group stories into tops or themes. Each thread can have one or more stories and photos, again gathered from around the Web.
