Local News Queen, an anonymous blogger, laments the use of graphics at her (or his) station.
“Network news stations spend big bucks on equipment to make fancy graphics. We basically have a guy with an Etch A Sketch,” reads the post.
The author continues by pointing out that a map is often used as a way to have a visual “if we missed a story because an associate producer is surfing jobs at monster.com” and how mug shots are constantly used when story subjects die.
The post is a biting account of local news’ reliance on graphics in situations in ways that don’t necessarily enhance storytelling and is worth a read.
