Earthquake could affect recording media supply

Broadcasting & Cable reports that some distributors are warning customers that the Japanese earthquake could have an effect on the supply of digital recording media.

Sony, one of the largest suppliers of recording media has experience damage and power issues at at least two of its Japanese facilities, and at least two distribution companies say there could be a shortage or price increases in HDCam SR, HDCam, DVCam, Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, Betacam IMX, Betacam SD, XDCam, SxS, LTO, Blu-ray, DV and HDV media.

B&C also reports, however, that none of the major manufacturers with major Japanese operations it contacted, including Sony, Panasonic and Grass Valley, have reported any major staff injuries and are working to restore operations to normal as quickly as possible.
