The Atlantic has an interesting story on the concept of the “insert studio” and the potential effect it has on TV news.
Insert studios are certainly not a new concept (or a rare one, for that matter). As part of renovations to 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the network added several so-called “news nooks” as part of its Global Insert Studios initiative. In addition to playing host to various NBC News and MSNBC programs at one time or another, including “Nightly News,” “Dateline” and “The Ed Show,” the insert studios are also available, for a fee, for use by other broadcast outlets.
