Facebook to launch ‘subscribe’ button
Facebook is readying a “subscribe” button that news websites can embed on thier sites.
The new button, which doesn’t have a solid launch date, enhances the subscription feature the social networking site added earlier this year. The subscription feature allows “one way friendships” that allows public figures and brands to send updates to subscribers without having to create a direct “friend” connection.
The embeddable new button will allow users to signal Facebook that they wish to receive updates and content from a brand such as a news site without leaving the Web page.
The feature will provide a key opportunity for both news websites and specific reporters, anchors and other personalities, to connect with viewers and fans.
