USAToday.com redesigns homepage; will Gannett stations follow suit?

USAToday.com has debuted a new homepage design — as parent company Gannett’s other media properties continue to transition to the USA Today look online.

The new layout takes advantage of wider screens and uses larger photos as well as a unique typography treatment on the top story headline.

So far, story pages and section fronts appear to be the same.

USAToday.com appears to be the sole Gannett property that has switched to the new homepage — but as the company continues to unify its properties’ look and feel, it wouldn’t be surprising if USAToday.com is serving as a guinea pig for an eventual company wide change.
