What ‘Star Wars’ sounds like without NBC News theme composer’s score

In case you’ve been completely cut off from social media the past few hours, today is Star Wars day. And John Williams, the iconic composer also behind the NBC News theme, scored the Star Wars films.

Williams’ work was unique for the time in that most films in the science fiction genre used highly synthesized music rather than the full, orchestral sounding scores he is known for.

NBC News took some scenes from Star Wars films and replaced Williams’ music with music more in line with what other space themed flicks were using in the 1970s. The results are pretty lackluster — and do a great job of illustration why Williams has been so successful at what he does.
