Facebook profile photos can also be a walk through a station’s history. Take WNCN in North Carolina — which has not only changed logos over time, but branding, owners and network affiliation — and its profile photo album is an interesting mix of designs.
Back in 2013, when the station’s oldest profile photo was posted, the station was an NBC affiliate. In fact, 2013 marked its final year as an NBC O&O, when NBC sold the station to Media General.
Back then, it was in the middle of the marking the summer Olympics and was using its call signs as its brand.
Fast forward to 2019 — the station is now a CBS affiliate, has been sold to Nexstar Media Group and has changed branding twice.
Looking in the station’s gallery, you can see its period after switching to CBS and becoming “CBS North Carolina” and, eventually, “CBS 17 News.”
The station also, according to profile photos that remain in the gallery, changes look for special events, including the “Local Election” and “Alert Day” looks shown above.
