Birmingham’s CBS 42 updates set with versatile design

Nexstar Media Group’s CBS affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama, WIAT, bowed a new set design this week that mixes flexibility with warm wood and brick textures.

CBS 42 officially launched the set on Thursday, May 9, 2019, with design from Nexstar’s internal design team

The design features a rotating anchor desk that mirrors the design style of network-cousin “CBS This Morning.” The desk can pivot to feature a 5×3 video wall or a brick archway fronted high res LED background from Neoti. A secondary 3×3 array provides additional flexibility for the studio space with all video tech supplied and integrated by AV Design Services.

“This new set creates a more dynamic environment that allows our journalists more options in telling their stories,” said Rob Martin, news director at WIAT. “I truly believe this set’s unique features take our news product to the next level of excellence.”

The studio also includes a weather center and pod, branded as the CBS 42 Storm Team Weather Center, that follows other recent Nexstar debuts with frosted glass panels, backlit strips and multiple video LED accents from Neoti.

Along with the set, the station also upgraded its studio lighting to LED fixtures and added Vinten Fusion FH-145 robotic heads with CueScript prompters.
