Comcast, the parent of NBCUniversal, has unveiled an updated version of its corporate logo.
The change, which became official Jan. 10, 2024, looks largely similar at first glance.
However, upon closer look, there are significant differences between the new version and the one first introduced back in 2013, which also introduced the use of the NBC peacock.
In the new logo, the distinctive lighter, geometric sans serif typeface in the wordmark has been swapped out in favor of slightly thicker lettering. The new typeface removes the curved tips found in the previous logo’s typography as well.
The new logo also swaps out the 1986 NBC peacock in favor of the redrawn and recolored version introduced in 2022.
In addition to sporting the brighter color palette, the Comcast logo version of the peacock now sports a curved reflective effect in select lockups. Prior to the 2022 bird update, NBC often rendered its logo, particularly the peacock feathers with a glassy or glossy effect, but the redesign largely removed that approach in most applications.
NBCUniversal, which is the official name of the parent company of NBC owned by Comcast, continues to use its purple logotype set in the custom Rock Serif. Comcast, which sometimes refers to the division as “Comcast NBCUniversal” has alternate versions of the the logo using that naming convention and the same sans serif and peacock centric design used in the old Comcast logo.
The name “Comcast” spent many years being more widely associated with cable TV and internet service when the company branded these offerings with the same name. In 2010, however, the company introduced the “Xfinity” branding for these services. The brand eventually expanded to be used for mobile phone service as well.
Comcast sells business services under the name “Comcast Business,” meaning the Xfinity name is largely used as a direct-to-consumer brand.
