NBCU to invest $190M in NYC facilities

NBCUniversal has announced it plans to invest some $190 million in upgrades and renovations at the company’s New York City headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and other nearby facilities.

A key component of the project is adding energy efficient and environmentally friendly initiatives as part of the company’s “Green is Universal” efforts.

In addition to work at 30 Rock, the company will also renovate portions of the 245,000 square feet it has leased at 1221 Avenue of Americas, including adding a new studio control room and fiber networking technology.

The work is expected to stretch through the first quarter of 2014 and provide 484,000 man hours of employment.

NBC’s work will also include renovations to office and technical infrastructure to approximately 1.2 million square feet the company owns at 30 Rock.

“We’re delighted to announce that NBCUniversal is upping the ante in its decades-long relationship with New York. In addition to investing $190 million and contributing to making New York a greener city, we’re building on an 85-year history that stretches back to the earliest days of broadcast entertainment,” said Pat Fili-Krushel, executive vice president of NBCUniversal.
