‘CBS Evening News’ updates look for Jeff Glor debut

In addition to the graphics, CBS also introduced some new ways to shoot Studio 57, starting right from the top.

Where the broadcast previously opened with a wide shot of the anchor standing next to one of the studio’s multiple video walls, Glor now launches the show against a different video wall, shot slightly off axis, allowing the small in-studio work area and additional monitor array mounted on the exposed brick wall to be part of the background.

The shot isn’t quite as wide and, given its tighter framing, also has a bit less real estate to showcase the video wall technology, which has quickly become a mainstay of broadcast design.

Glor made use of the studio’s circular desk, sans the removable “wings” used on “CBS This Morning,” for a brief interview segment, with the large video wall showing topical graphics and the show’s logo fed to the vertical monitors scattered around the space.

Another new shot features Glor against a blue hued cityscape with oversized CBS eye outline that, thanks to animation, “slides” aside to reveal a topical graphic.

In addition to the new graphics and shooting techniques, the set also shifts lighting cues throughout the broadcast, with the overall look being a bit darker and sophisticated, with splashes of color blended in as well.
