New CNN morning shows get names, logos

CNN has announced the names for its new morning programs, which debut Jan. 2.

The 5 to 7 a.m. block will be known as “Early Start” and will be hosted by Ashleigh Banfield and Zoraida Sambolin. Following that will be “Starting Point” with Soledad O’Brien.

Both shows have similar logos that make use of a clean typeface in white and bright blue set against a grayish-blue background with rounded corners. The lowercase “g” in the “Starting Point” logo is particularly interesting.

Both shows have also set up Twitter accounts (@earlystartcnn and @startingptcnn, respectively).

The “Early Start” name is particularly interesting since it seems a bit reminiscent of both “Early Today” and soon-to-be-defunct “The Early Show.” That said, the use of a form of the word “start” in both titles does create a nice connection between the two broadcasts.

The new CNN shows launch a week before CBS News’ revamped “CBS This Morning” and replace CNN’s previous morning offering, “American Morning,” which also branded under the initials “AM.”
