AccuWeather has introduced several improvements to its CinemaLive HD weather graphics system, which now includes 360-degree graphics architecture that allows for 3D virtual environments for weather forecasters.

One of the neatest applications of CinemaLive is a feature that creates a 3D, animated “sandbox” in the lower third of the screen. The forecaster appears to be standing behind this and can indicate “down” to the various temperatures, locations and data.

The system can be used with or without virtual sets, as some of the 3D applications and animations are impressive enough to stand on their own.  In addition, the system fully integrates with Microsoft Virtual Earth technology for stunningly detailed 3D views of cities (at the booth demo, the AccuWeather folks were showing off a view of the Las Vegas Hilton’s iconic sign.
