Richmond’s 8 News updates with flexible set design

Media General’s 8 News Richmond, WRIC-TV, completely revamped its on-air look Monday with the launch of a new set, news music package, logo and graphics package.

The set design, from FX Design Group, is a large upgrade for the station, who temporarily broadcasted from the newsroom while work was completed on the changeover. With three video walls and multiple color-changing backlit elements, the set can transform for various dayparts and shows.

The sets anchor desk mixes two backlit elements with a branded front, seating four anchors and reporters. Behind, a 3×3 video wall is present along with a backlit wall. Gold and grey paneling with cove lighting is layered to separate the anchor area from the adjacent weather center, which features a large desk that matches the anchor area.

A frosted station logo brands the space with a large monitor and work area behind. To the left, a logo graphic and 3×3 monitor wall is present, utilized mainly for weather and sports.

The right side of the set includes the third monitor wall with a backlit station logo and interconnected gold frame, wrapped by a backlit wall. A single monitor on stand rounds up the design, which also includes subtle lighting in the sets header.

The overall design from FX provides multiple storytelling venues and a unique look for the market, creating an inviting and warm space.

Along with the set upgrade, WRIC-TV’s new graphic look provides a clean and modern change with “Guardian” from Stephen Arnold Music as the new music.
