MSNBC recently began airing a promo that features archival audio from past U.S. presidents discussing the value of a free press.
The spot uses behind-the-scenes black and white photography of MSNBC hosts and anchors while the audio, taken from various presidential speeches, plays over.
The clips selected selected feature past presidents discussing the value of a free press, a key move at a time when the media is under attack by the White House, Donald Trump and corporations.
Notably, though perhaps not surprisingly, no clip from Trump is included.
The spot ends with the “This is why we do it, this is who we are” tagline MSNBC uses on many of its other promos.
